It started well with people shaking my hand for my wonderful purchase but then one co-worker shake my hand and looked at me with anger. He said "Nice toolbox, but you gotta think of your future. Instead of paying a toolbox like this, I would pay for a house. Save for the future familly that you might get." I replied that I'm saving up for that actually. I know what I'm doing.
Another one started sacarstic jokes and angrily gave me advises that sounded more like orders and then said, you should not buy such a nice toolbox here, it's gonna be dirty and scratched in no time. Look at mine didn't cost much and look how badly scratch it gotten. Ok I said and I left for diner. I came back, that mofo cleaned the floor next to my toolbox with water and splashed dirty water all over my toolbox. I'm like really...you really did this? You clean the floor and you put dirt on my clean toolbox and go away? He then reply "It must be condensation, the water just float from the floor to your toolbox. It's not my fault.". I was like..."you're kidding me right? You think I'm this much of a dumbass??? You can't leave my toolbox like this man, this is wrong." He cleaned it...with a dirty as fuck rag just to piss me off.
The rest of the day went by with other people giving compliments and people hating because I have 2 drawers that are empty for now, calling me Rusty jr. (A guy that racked up over 60000$ of tools and a toolbox from snap-on when he clearly doesn't need it compared to someone like me and has so much to pay that he has apparently 20$ left each week for himself.). Then rumours about me started going about things that weren't true at all! I was like wtf????? Where did you get this info from?
At the end of the day, the first angry guy acted tough on me. I'm like what is wrong with you man? You're jealous or something? Angrily he said "You buy stuff that aren't useful to you. The Miata, the new cellphone, this toolbox. You don't even have the tools you need. I'm like "Ok sir, what tools I'm I missing?" no answers from him "I repeat! What tools I'm I missing in my toolbox?? Tell me because I think it's pretty complete for what I do now." Him "Well....you gotta think about stuff that are beyond your control. Having a family can be beyond your control. You need to pay for a house soon and you wont be prepared." Me " Do you even know me? My cars are payed. My tools are payed. Only my toolbox and my credit card needs to be payed. I do sidejobs also my friend and I save about 200-300 per weekly paycheck and put it in a saving account. I know what the hell I'm doing. I don't wanna live here at all and I definitely don't have a hurry to start my family, hell I don't even have a gf for starters. Plus I wanna go back to school. This is why I save up! I do think about my fuckin future dammit!" He shut up and told a joke to relieve the tension...
That day sucked and it didn't help that all I did was work with the laptop today to fix errors with the data loggers. I was originally hired to maintain and repair the data loggers in the trucks. I've mastered the art of of fixing them and install them...which made some of them jealous because I stayed clean, use computers and hang in the office with THE boss to give my report.
Here's is the new toy that we got at work in exchange for that long rant/cooling off therapy that I just did.

Sometimes I don't understand how some people are so rude/intrusive when it comes to my personal finances. Mind your own damn business! I'm young, so people my age just ask whatever the fuck they want thinking I'll just tell them something. And when I do tell them something, they just don't believe me!

You seem to be working with a bunch of cunts.

Haters will hate, bitches will always be jealous, but you have a kick ass toolbox, so fuck 'em all.

Wait, techs act that way towards other techs because of a toolbox purchase? It sounds like middle school girls when one of them gets a designer purse her friends can't afford, so they make fun of her and start spreading crap...

Ouch. Yeah, I try not to engage too much when the conversation is hostile. I usually just reply with stuff like "uh huh" or "I'll be okay". Eventually it comes down to "What can I say?"

I have a decent toolbox. And it was paid for when I bought it (I didn't get the almighty snap-on box) about 20 years ago. And now it's in the garage next to my house and my family gets food on their table and we pay the mortgage.

It's in here somewhere... I'll try to find it!

Well that Rusty guy got it bad. They keep saying how much his snap-on bill racks up. It gotten from 30000$ when I started to a rumoured 100000$ now. I'm like....guys really? Leave him be. "You don't understand, he got a 20000$ car, a 18000$ toolbox, over 40000$ worth of tools, says that he needs overtime to pay everything or he wont make it, can't barely go out, has a ugly gf from ontario and visit her each weekend and uses all his money left to do so. This guy is fucked up." Leave him be I say. They keep trying to find bad stuff about the guy so much that he overdo his trucks inspections. Even there they complaint about the over work. It's ridiculous. The issue with me is how much confident I am now compared to when I started. Some of them don't like it and act tough on me like the two asses but it didn't work. I'm not surprised about gossiping in garages, I was warned at school.

Packed em in for the Winter. The MG is just small enough to tuck sideways in the front, it will come back out in May.

Thanks!

My exact thoughts. I just can't believe how much people would change for such a small thing...

Well they seem to compare themselves to you. Our salaries actually dont change much between us neither, so me that has the beginner mechanic salary, that is able to pay himself a huge toolbox like this, has 2 nice cars for himself, pays for food each day at work when all the others (except the bosses and mechanics working on the week shift) struggles = Jealous people that have nothing better to do than to give financial advices with sarcasm to you for no reason and hoping that you crash and burn and remember what they told you when you will crash and burn.9

I hated the people at the shop I worked with. I mentioned before on here when I was 17 and working as an oil changer/maintenance tech that one guy tried to tell me all about how his base model 10 year old neon was worth more than my conversion van that was also 10 years old....but was near mint condition besides a very small rust spot and it had the V8 and the raised roof with all the options. I got so much shit for not getting rid of it (read: giving it to one of them) but I knew it was all just jealousy. In shitty shops, you see guys showing jealousy towards other techs if they have something nice, and kissing ass to the shop managers to try and get better job. Oh and you get a lot of hate for doing things above and beyond like sweeping the floors and organizing the parts storage area because you're "brown nosing" even if you're just killing time because the bays are all filled with people doing work and you don't want to look idle.

I completely understand you as I'm in the same situation as you we're. I never ass kissed the bosses, but I cared a lot about my job...maybe too much to the point where I would retry my job til' it's perfect or use overkill materials on my repairs. People complained about the time I waste but the trucks never returned for the same issues compared to some of the others. The boss loved my job with the data loggers and I did the work for myself so that I understand it easier and that everything was put in MY order. This certainly pissed off a bunch of people in the garage that kept getting dirty...

This crap happens everywhere. I get people jealous of a 10 yr old M3 at my job, and they really hate that i have 2 cars. I've never had a new car, but they only buy new cars. My 10 yr old car was $10k less than their Fords. One of the directors hates that I have a galaxy S4 like him. Just because he's a director he's entitled to some superior lifestyle. Its not my fault he married a wife thats never worked, but racked up school loans. Nor is it my fault he's made poor financial decisions. They cant figure out why I dont drive a shitbox and dont bring my lunch everyday like other people my age. If they spent more time worrying about themselves instead of everybody else they'd be better off.

Damn man. sounds fucked up in there. I have haters at work, one once called me "weak" even though I was injured because I dislocated my knee and could barely walk. Fuck those haters. They sucked. My boss likes me, that's what's important.

Some people can't stand people who have nice things.

To them, there's rich and poor, otherwise stated as The Rich and Everybody Else; and The Rich is anyone who has a dollar/pound/euro/peso more than they do.

Envy causes stress, and stress kills. Begrudge no one their success, and find contentment with what you have.

"They cant figure out why I dont drive a shitbox and dont bring my lunch everyday like other people my age."

uhhhh when is it ever a sign of poor financial decisions bringing lunch to work? elitist much? Dude, I might bring a lunch work 95% of the time, but I paid of my mtg in 8 years...

Its not the director that brings his lunch everday, its people my age that are struggling. He eats out everyday. I brought my own lunch everyday for years. He expects everyone pay grades below him to have the same lifestyle thats my point. Because I dont it's not fair in his eyes. By poor financial decisions I meant buying a new car every three years since college, not working at all during school, renting his own apartment all four years of school, and coming out with a lot of debt.
